Shaggy-Produced Michael Prophet and Henry Junjo Lawes Dancehall Classic "Gunman" Riddim Returns with New Releases
Shaggy's latest production, the "BADMAN RIDDIM," is now available, featuring new singles by OLAF BLACKWOOD feat. Shaggy, "Selector Pull It," and JUNIOR CAT, "Rude Bwoy Sumthin."
The "BADMAN RIDDIM" is a modern remake of the classic 1981 riddim track from MICHAEL PROPHET's "Gunman," which is a cornerstone of the 1980s dancehall movement. The original track was produced by HENRY “JUNJO” LAWES, with ROOTS RADICS on the instrumentation and mixed by SCIENTIST. Shaggy has brought this legendary riddim into the present, adding fresh ideas to create a hybrid sound that resonates with today’s listeners.
In addition to the new releases, this riddim has been the foundation for past hits such as Frankie Paul's "Mus Mus Tail" and Tony Rebel & Macka B's "DJ Unity," further cementing its place in dancehall history alongside MICHAEL PROPHET's "Gunman."
The first release, available today, is "Selector Pull It" by OLAF BLACKWOOD feat. Shaggy, a tribute to sound system culture. The official video, featuring appearances by BOUNTY KILLER and GYPTIAN, is set to drop on August 23.
The second release, "Rude Bwoy Sumthin" by JUNIOR CAT, also launches today, with a two-track single including the version (riddim-only track) of "BADMAN RIDDIM."
Additionally, a third release by dancehall queen SPICE is scheduled for September.
