From July 14th for one week, Montego Bay will be alive with energy every night. It's the festival week of "Sumfest," a lively celebration of reggae and Jamaican culture that attracts reggae and Jamaica lovers from all over the world. This year's event is packed with highlights.
Celebrating its 31st anniversary this year, here’s a quick schedule of Sumfest:
On the 14th, it kicks off with a Family Fun Day, where kids can play on the rides and adults can party, making for a truly irie event.
On the 15th, there's a Street Dance that celebrates dancehall culture from night into the early hours. Cool selectors and artists will be lined up, offering a genuine Jamaican experience through music, food, fashion, dance, and lifestyle. The night is filled with games, prizes, and surprises, and the best part is, entry is free.
On the 16th, there’s an All-White Party at Montego Bay's famous Pier 1. The entire venue will be dressed in white, partying to hits from the 80s to the 2000s. The popular DJ Zj Liquid, who is soon to visit Japan, will also play.
The much-anticipated Sound Clash is on the 17th. Top sounds from around the world compete fiercely for the trophy. The judges are the audience, making it an intense and thrilling night. Past Japanese representatives include Mighty Crown, Yard Beat, and Jah Works, who left a strong impression last year. This year, the spotlight is on the first female selector, Badgyal Marie (Notorious Sound). She will face last year's champion Dynamiq from Sudan, Warrior from Germany, and heavyweights like Code Red and Body Guard. Japanese attendees in Jamaica should bring their flags to show support.
On the 18th, it's the Jamaica Rum Festival Blitz, featuring Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire and various artists. From 1 PM to 9 PM, you can enjoy a range of activities offered by the Rum Festival. Following that, there’s a high-energy lineup of Afro-beat, dancehall, reggae, and EDM music until 2 AM.
The 19th is Dancehall Night, the eagerly awaited stage show. From 8 PM until around 8 AM, a nonstop hot performance by dancehall artists will take place. This global must-see show features Capleton, Aidonia, Dexta Daps, TeeJay, Jada Kingdom, Valiant, Pablo YG, 450, Munga, and the much-anticipated YG Marley. There won't be a moment to rest.
